UNDATED (WSAU) A record number of cheese-makers want to be known as the world’s best.
Over 2,300 cheeses and butters have been entered in a contest held every two years by the Wisconsin Cheese-Makers’ Association. Producers from 20 countries have entered this year’s contest, to be held next Tuesday through Thursday in Madison. Eighty categories of cheese will be judged – including brie , cheddar, and gorgonzola. There’s a new category this year for cheeses with reduced-sodium.
The top prize in 2008 went to Michael Spycher, who submitted a gruyere cheese made in a tiny village in Switzerland.
