WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) A 23-year-old enlisted man from Wausau deserted from the U.S. Navy in 2008. He was arrested during an unrelated incident last weekend when police learned of an outstanding military warrant.
John Chang of Wausau says he left the navy without permission two years ago to deal with family problems. He'd been stationed at Fort Sheppard, Texas.
Chang was released from the Marathon County Jail on Monday after police contacted military officials. It's not clear what punishment he'll face. He could be dishonorably discharged if he doesn't wish to return to service.
